Eligibility
Faculty, clinical fellows, advanced residents, and senior staff holding doctoral degrees are eligible to be MEL-STaR Professional Scholars. A letter supporting the applicant’s participation from their home department’s division/department head or immediate supervisor is required if accepted to the program. Scholars may not be participating in training grants (i.e. T32 or T35). The eligibility of K award recipients will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Application to the Program
Admission to the program is competitive. Applications will be accepted from February 1 - April 30, 2024. We will begin reviewing applications on February 15 and offer acceptances on a rolling basis.
Your application to the MEL-STaR Scholars Program will require:
From the applicant:
1. A copy of your CV, resume or NIH biosketch
2. A 1–2-page statement describing
a. The primary area/problem of interest for health improvement and ideas to address the problem.
b. Your understanding of LHS and how it applies to your area problem. (See article What is unique about Learning Health Systems: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9284922/)
c. How your approach to the problem would promote principles of health equity and patient engagement.
3. Your preference of up to three (3) MEL-STaR labs in which you would like to embed your work.
From your division/department head:
If admitted, we will need a letter supporting your participation in the MEL-STaR Scholars Program. This letter must include an affirmation of 20% release time for coursework and the experiential project.
